Empowering First Nations Renters: Join Tenants Queensland as the Successful Tenancies Project Manager (Identified)
At Indigenous Job Match (IJM), we’re proud to walk alongside organisations committed to advancing housing justice, equity, and inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
One of these organisations, Tenants Queensland (TQ) — a respected statewide community legal service — is seeking a passionate First Nations leader to take on a pivotal role: Successful Tenancies Project Manager (Identified).
This is more than just a job — it’s an opportunity to create lasting change in Queensland’s housing landscape, empowering First Nations renters and strengthening the cultural capability of tenancy services across the state.
About the Role
Based in Brisbane CBD, the Successful Tenancies Project Manager will lead a small, dedicated team to deliver a major initiative aimed at improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander renters.
This role will see you:
Lead and manage the Successful Tenancies Project from start to finish.
Strengthen relationships with First Nations communities and tenancy support services.
Build TQ’s cultural capability and ensure services are culturally safe and inclusive.
Partner with First Nations agencies to co-design tenancy training for landlords and agents.
Develop resources and strategies that help bridge the gap between housing services and community needs.
This is a full-time, fixed-term role through to September 2026, classified under the SCHADS Award Level 6, with salary packaging options and flexible work arrangements.
About You
This position is identified for a First Nations applicant.
You’ll bring a strong sense of purpose, cultural integrity, and leadership to a role that values lived experience and community connection.
We’re looking for someone who:
Understands the challenges faced by First Nations renters in Queensland.
Has experience managing community, housing, or social justice projects.
Communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Can design and deliver culturally appropriate programs and training.
Believes in collaboration, empowerment, and social justice.
A background in Social Work, Law, Community Services, or First Nations Studies is desirable, but your leadership and cultural knowledge are what truly count.
About Tenants Queensland
Founded in 1986, Tenants Queensland (TQ) is the state’s specialist community legal service for renters.
Through its QSTARS program, TQ provides free tenancy advice, education, and advocacy — representing the interests of all Queenslanders who rent their home.
TQ has a proud history of standing up for renters’ rights and creating fairer, safer, and more inclusive housing systems.
This project is a key part of that journey, deepening their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Why This Role Matters
Housing is more than just a roof — it’s stability, safety, and belonging.
As the Successful Tenancies Project Manager, you’ll help remove barriers to housing access, build stronger partnerships between agencies and communities, and lead initiatives that create real, measurable change.
It’s an opportunity to blend professional leadership with cultural wisdom and make a meaningful impact on the lives of First Nations renters across Queensland.
