Know Yourself: A Free Quiz Designed for Blak Excellence

Knowing yourself can change how you see your strengths, make decisions and choose your next step.

Indigenous Job Match created the free Know Your Spirit quiz because mainstream personality tools do not always recognise the strengths our mob carry through culture, community, family, Country and lived experience.

Some people lead from the front. Others quietly hold everything together. Some are natural storytellers, deep thinkers, practical problem-solvers, carers, knowledge keepers or people who challenge the way things have always been done.

Every one of those strengths matters.

Discover how your spirit shows up

Know Your Spirit is a free, strengths-based personality quiz created especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through 60 reflective questions, the quiz explores how you think, feel, communicate, learn, lead and connect with the people and world around you. Your answers reveal one of 16 Spirit Types, with each profile highlighting natural strengths, ways of contributing and areas for personal growth.

This is not about putting you in a box or telling you who you should be. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect and recognise qualities within yourself that you may not have had the words to describe before.

Your results may help you think differently about your career, leadership style, relationships, community contribution or the direction you want to take next.

Built with Blak excellence at its heart

Know Your Spirit centres Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strengths and experiences. It recognises that identity, community responsibilities, connection, storytelling, care, purpose and walking in different worlds can all shape how a person leads and contributes.

Our mob are not one homogeneous group. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples belong to many different Nations, communities, language groups and cultural traditions. No quiz could ever capture that diversity or define someone’s identity.

Instead, Know Your Spirit offers a culturally informed starting point for self-reflection. It celebrates the many ways our people show up, contribute, create, care and lead.

The culturally inspired Spirit names are symbolic rather than direct translations from any particular Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander language. Indigenous Job Match acknowledges the authority of language custodians and welcomes guidance as the resource continues to grow.

Can non-Indigenous people take the quiz?

Absolutely.

Although Know Your Spirit was designed with Blak excellence at its centre, non-Indigenous people are welcome to complete it too.

We simply ask everyone to approach the experience with respect. The cultural framing is intentional and should not be treated as a novelty. Completing the quiz does not give someone cultural identity or the authority to speak for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What it can do is encourage deeper personal reflection and a greater appreciation of different ways of knowing, being, leading and contributing.

Know your worth. Know your spirit.

You might discover something new about yourself. You might finally find the words for strengths you have carried your whole life. You might even see a new direction for your work, relationships or future.

Know Your Spirit is a reflection tool, not a clinical assessment or a replacement for professional career or wellbeing advice. Take what feels useful, reflect on your results and use them as a starting point for your next yarn or decision.
